Gartner recently published the Market Guide for Master Data Management (MDM) External Service Providers. This report can be used to identify and engage with the provider that best fits with a user's requirements.

Gartner defines MDM as:

"A technology-enabled discipline in which business and IT work together to ensure the uniformity, accuracy, stewardship, semantic consistency and accountability of the enterprise's official, shared master data assets. Master data is the consistent and uniform set of identifiers and extended attributes that describes the core entities of the enterprise, such as customers, prospective customers, citizens, products, items, tools, services, suppliers, sites, hierarchies and the chart of accounts."

Due to the increasing complexity of MDM, Gartner recommends engaging an external service provider (ESP) in order to accelerate and ensure success with their program or project. In fact, Gartner states that about "50% of MDM Leaders report using at least one MDM ESP to accelerate their MDM strategy or implementation."

DATUM was included as a representative vendor in this market, Gartner had this to say about DATUM:

"Datum is an EIM (Enterprise Information Management) strategy firm, with technology assets and methodologies in the information management discipline and an emphasis on information governance. The majority of its MDM experience is with large global manufacturing enterprises in North America. Datum has partnerships with SAP and Stibo Systems, and significant recent MDM experience with SAP (MDG-C, MDG-M and MDG-S). Apart from SAP, it has recent MDM implementation experience with Informatica MDM, Microsoft MDS, Stibo Systems and Talend MDM.

The company has also developed a content package for consumer packaged goods product transparency (based on its horizontally focused Information Value Management® platform) that assists in documenting and tracking the business impact and the value of information management programs."

If you are looking to accelerate your data governance and master data management program and create the greatest positive information impact on your operations, we'd love to talk.
