We recently attended and exhibited at the largest global business technology event -- the SAPPHIRE Now & ASUG Annual Conference in Orlando, FL. There were over 30,000 attendees and the energy was certainly high. Whether or not you were able to attend in person, we thought you might be interested in reading about our top five event highlights.
1) Booth Conversations
One of the best parts of attending a huge conference like this is the chance to talk with people from all types of businesses with varying needs. We're able to hear from different perspectives on what's happening in today's largest organizations. This year, some of the key themes of conversation were:
- Preparing for S/4 HANA (this spurred our brand new white paper)
- Machine learning
- Customer empathy in the digital economy
- Internet of things
- Digital transformation

2) SAP Announcements
Every year SAP shares exciting announcements and updates at SAPPHIRE. The top five for this year were:
- SAP's new alliance with Apple to develop native iOS applications
- SAP Digital Consumer Insight is a new data offering for a more accurate understanding of physical consumer behavior
- SAP Mobile BI will soon support Lumira in offline mode
- SAP Lumira and Design Studio will converge into SAP BusinessObjects Lumeria 2.0
- Microsoft and SAP's plan to deliver support for HANA deployed on Microsoft Azure
3) ASUG Sessions
The speakers on the SAPPHIRE floor and at ASUG are always top notch. This year we were particularly proud of our clients Johnson & Johnson and Johnson Controls who each presented at the conference. If you missed their sessions you can access the slide decks here:
Our team thought CEO Bill McDermott's keynote session from day one was particularly interesting. There was an apparent shift to new messaging around "customer empathy" to explain SAP's focus on applying a more customer centric approach to the way they conduct business. He pledged to place more effort on improving the customer experience with successful implementations, running in real-time, and digital transformation.
Of course we have to mention Coldplay! This was one of our favorite SAPPHIRE concerts of all time. The lightshow (including light up wristbands), set list, venue (Amway Center) and encore made this concert a great way to end the conference.
